Pacific Poly Pride

Have you ever been to Polyfest? Polyfest is a festival where  different schools perform in a variety of different cultural groups. There are many stages where you can perform such as Samoan, Tongan, Cook Island, Maori, Niuean and more.  Yesterday the Yr 7 & 8’s of P.E.S got the opportunity to go and explore the Polyfest Festival at Manukau Sports Bowl. The first thing we did was go to some of the cool workshops they had at Poly. The workshops were there to teach us and all the other schools about our culture and many more things.  I have to say it was pretty cool. There were some cool performances and delicious food.

One of my highlights would have to be eating all the food. The food was so nice it tasted like heaven. There were Island food, Cook Island donuts, Mango and Strawberry smoothies, ice cream in the pineapple and watermelon, panikeke, otai and many more.  The food was absolutely delicious.

My second highlight was probably watching the Diversity stage with my group. The diversity stage was very entertaining because I got to see how other cultures perform and express their culture. It was cool seeing an ex-pt englander on the stage performing in the Fijian group.

I think it is important for students to go to Polyfest because they get to go and learn at the new workshops. I think it is important because they get to learn about all the different pacific islands and cultures. I think more schools should go to Polyfest and learn because it is really fun and you learn.

Overall I think the Polyfest was very enjoyable and fun. I learnt heaps from the different workshops and enjoyed every moment. I loved watching the different performances but my favorite part of the day was eating the lovely food. Thank you to Mrs Sio for buying us food!

Te Taiao O Tamaki

During the past week Auckland has faced a flooding problem. Auckland has recently been flooded from all the rain that has come through. The council has asked all Auckland residents to start saving at least 20 litres of water to help have enough for the years ahead.

Some tips for saving water are-
*No washing the car for a while

*Don't waste any water from the tap
*Take shorter
*Turn off the tap while you are brushing your teeth or shaving
*Don't water your garden or lawn until there is enough water
*No Baths

Here are a few links about the Auckland Water Crisis

Te Taiao O Tamaki-River Talks

Last week I got the opportunity to go to River Talks at the Omaru creek. Our creek is horrendous. It is filled with rubbish, fat, kids toys and even rotten mattresses. At the River Talks people talked to us about making the river cleaner, becoming a cleaner community and changing our environment.

At the River Talks there were about 5 schools, there were Pt England, Tamaki College, Glen Innes School, Te kura kaupapa maori o puau and Glen Taylor. Back then our river used to be clean, people were able to swim in it. Nowadays its disgusting, no one can swim in it now.

How can our community help? We need to fix our river immediately. Its disgusting.

Thirst-Paul Mason

Walt: 1-Find evidence from the text to support my answers
2-Analyse the text to understand the key themes and messages

Task: Our task was to complete this presentation given to us by our teacher Mrs Ilaoa. In our story it talks about a boy and his sister who is thirsty. Aqua-Plex shows up to the neighbors and puts water into there tank. The siblings are in desperate need of water so the brother connects the hose to the tank and pumps water into there pipes.
